This Assateague Island National Seashore Poster is a unique tribute to the WPA posters that were created in the 1930’s and 1940’s. The WPA posters were originally constructed as a government initiative to generate interest in the national parks and improve park attendance.
We have designed WPA Style National Park Posters featuring all 59 National Parks to celebrate America’s diverse natural beauty and to encourage you to reflect on the rich history and immense beauty that each national park has to offer. We hope to inspire you to find your park and travel to the stunning landscapes which make America so great. Collect them all as you visit each national park and commemorate your unforgettable experience.
This print celebrates the beauty of the wild horses of Assateague Island.
Beginning in the 1600's, colonists used the Island for grazing horses and other livestock. The bands of wild horses living on Assateague today are descendents of those domesticated animals and remain a powerful force acting on the island's natural systems. At various times in its history, fishing villages, industrial sites, and even a network of lifesaving stations for stranded mariners have all left their marks.
Then as now, the dynamic nature of the island continues to manifest itself in both subtle and dramatic ways, giving Assateague its unique and special character.
